NEW JERSEY — August 2026 — What happens when someone goes to extraordinary lengths to erase another person's identity? And what does a mysterious woman with no past have to do with an assassination plot that could threaten intergalactic peace?
Those are the questions confronting futuristic private investigator Anne Manx in Anne Manx and the Finger Tips, the latest installment in author Larry M. Weiner's Lives of the Cat science-fiction mystery series.
The story begins when a critically injured woman arrives at the Eastern Sector Medical Center. She has no identification, her fingertips have been deliberately burned to destroy her fingerprints, and her teeth have recently been replaced with implants. Even advanced identification systems cannot establish who she is.
When Lieutenant Gaby Greiner of the Intergalactic Police Force asks Anne Manx to investigate, the hard-boiled private detective discovers a trail leading to a clandestine operation capable of giving people entirely new identities.
But the investigation takes an unexpected turn.
A historic diplomatic meeting between rival intergalactic sectors is approaching, and intelligence officials have learned that a professional assassin may be planning to strike.
Are the two mysteries connected? And can Anne discover the truth before a killer changes the course of intergalactic history?
Combining the atmosphere of classic film noir with futuristic technology, Anne Manx and the Finger Tips delivers a fast-paced detective mystery filled with deception, danger, and unexpected revelations.
Anne Manx is no ordinary private investigator. Born on the planet Baldur, she possesses Type 4 blood, which gives her nine lives. But immortality doesn't make her invulnerable to betrayal, bad decisions, or the dangers that accompany her investigations.
With her sharp wit, questionable judgment, and a talent for finding trouble, Anne carries on the tradition of the classic hard-boiled detective in a universe where criminals have access to technologies that make the impossible possible.
Larry M. Weiner is a writer and producer whose career spans television, film, and audio entertainment. His credits include work on Emmett Otter's Jug-Band Christmas and numerous dramatic productions.
His Lives of the Cat series brings the storytelling traditions of classic detective fiction into a futuristic universe. In addition to the published Anne Manx adventures, the character has appeared in nine feature-length audio dramas featuring professional performers from television, film, and theater.
