A mysterious phone call, a murdered politician, and a fortune in missing gold launch the galaxy's most unconventional private investigator into another impossible case.

Author Larry M. Weiner brings his futuristic private investigator back in Anne Manx and the Woman Who Wasn't There, a new installment in the Lives of the Cat series that blends classic film noir, science fiction, suspense, and the sharp-edged personality of a detective who refuses to take no for an answer.

The mystery begins when Anne receives a desperate call from a frightened woman claiming someone is trying to frame her, poison her, and ultimately kill her.

There's just one problem.

The woman has been dead for ten years.

The caller appears to be Ladyia Valdez-Maison, the former owner of a wealthy estate. But Ladyia's death a decade earlier makes her plea for help seemingly impossible.

As Anne investigates, she encounters a murdered deputy mayor, a corrupt politician, suspicious servants, and a missing fortune in gold. Somewhere within the old mansion lies a secret someone is willing to kill to protect.

Was the call a message from beyond the grave? An elaborate deception? Or evidence of something far more sinister?

For Anne Manx, the answers are never simple—and the danger is never far behind.

Anne Manx and the Woman Who Wasn't There continues Weiner's distinctive approach to science-fiction storytelling, combining the atmosphere of classic Hollywood detective films with futuristic technology, colorful characters, and unexpected plot twists.

Anne is a former Intergalactic Police Force officer turned private investigator. Fiercely independent, frequently irreverent, and occasionally reckless, she possesses a remarkable advantage over her adversaries: nine lives.

But even nine lives may not be enough when a case involves powerful enemies determined to keep the past buried.

Anne Manx first gained an audience through a series of science-fiction audio dramas featuring actress Claudia Christian as the voice of Anne.

The character has since expanded into a growing collection of standalone mystery adventures, each combining the hard-boiled detective tradition with imaginative science-fiction settings.

Larry M. Weiner is a writer and producer whose career spans television, film, audio drama, and publishing. His work includes the development of Emmett Otter's Jug-Band Christmas and the creation of the Anne Manx science-fiction detective adventures.

His Lives of the Cat book series continues the adventures of a futuristic private investigator whose determination, wit, and extraordinary survival abilities have made her a distinctive heroine in science-fiction mystery fiction.
